Rhyming with Ants, Bats, and Cats

For this week’s Family Friday, enjoy a card game that can be played with multiple children. Have fun practicing animal names and rhyming skills using our Animal Riddles and Rhymes books in Level 3 of Footsteps2Brilliance. Read our step-by-step guide on how you can play this interactive card game with your children at home!

What you need:

  • Pre-made flashcards
  • Scissors

Step 1

Open up your Footsteps2Brilliance App, and go to Level 3 (Blue) on the left. In your library, find the Animal Riddles and Rhymes series. Read as many books as you’d like!

Step 2

Print out the animal rhyming flashcards here. Cut them.

Step 3

This card game is similar to the game called Concentration, where players match cards that rhyme.

  1. Put cards face down 10 across and 5 down. (Play with fewer cards for younger children, but make sure you have rhyming pairs.)
  2. Player 1 turns over any 2 cards. If they rhyme, they take the 2 cards. If they don’t rhyme, they turn them face down again in the same position.
  3. Player 2 repeats.
  4. The winner has the most rhyming pairs at the end of the game!
  5. Be sure to read the words out loud every time a card is turned over.
